Arrow Sudoku — rules and where to play

ARROW SUDOKU · Arrow Sudoku / Yajilin Sudoku (different)

Rules

  1. All standard Sudoku rules apply.
  2. The digit in the circle equals the sum of the digits along that arrow's path.
  3. Digits along a path may repeat unless a row, column or box forbids it.

How to start

Compute the extremes first

On a three-cell arrow the circle ranges only from 1+2+3=6 to 7+8+9=24, which narrows it immediately.

Longer arrows are worth more

The longer the path, the fewer values the circle can hold.

When combined with cages or thermometers, start at the overlap

Crossed constraints usually settle in a single step.

Where players get stuck

  • Assuming path digits cannot repeat — only the row, column and box limits apply.
  • Computing a product instead of a sum.
