Tatami — rules and where to play
TATAMI · Tatami Puzzle / Tatami Room
Tile the grid with tatami mats, and never let four corners meet at one point. That cross ban sounds harmless and turns out to be lethal.

Rules
- Cover the grid with 1×2 or 2×1 mats.
- No point may be the meeting of four mat corners.
- A number in a room states how many mats in that room cross the room border.
How to start
The cross ban is the strongest rule you have
Any placement that would form four meeting corners is out; late on it decides nearly every cell.
Room digits control crossings
A zero means no mat in that room crosses out, so the border aligns perfectly.
Lay the corners first
Corner mats have the fewest orientations.
Where players get stuck
- Ignoring the cross ban, which leaves dozens of legal but wrong solutions.
- Reading the room digit as a mat count instead of a crossing count.
