Rules
- The number at the left of a row or top of a column is its target sum.
- Weights (usually 1, 2, 3 …) are printed along the row and column edges.
- A black cell contributes its row weight and its column weight to the two totals.
- Every target must match exactly.
How to start
Attack the extremes
A target of 0 whites the line; a target equal to the full weight sum blacks it all.
Enumerate combinations on small grids
Up to about 7×7 you can just list the viable weight combinations.
Cross-check rows against columns
Every cell affects both at once, which is the strongest verification you get.
Where players get stuck
- Reading weights as a cell count instead of a value to add.
- Checking rows and forgetting columns.
