Rules

  1. A description (the clue) points at one concrete thing or idea.
  2. The description deliberately twists, using contrast or personification.
  3. Naming the answer wins; most draw on nature, daily life or culture.

How to start

Catch the contradiction

The odd line in the clue usually names the answer's trait.

Think ordinary things

Most classic riddles answer something plain (fire, shadow, clock) — do not over-reach.

Mind the verbs and quantities

"It has no…" "It can…" often states the essence directly.

Where players get stuck

  • Reading the clue as a literal definition and missing the metaphor.
  • Guessing too obscure when the answer is the most common thing.
